The twelve poems in this collection combine traditional translation with poème fondu (« melted poem »), a form originated by the French poet Michelle Grangaud (1941-2022), a member of Oulipo (Ouvroir de littérature potentielle). In the poème fondu, a new poem is created by using the words from another, longer poem.

Annick MacAskill is the author of four full-length poetry collections, including Shadow Blight (Gaspereau Press, 2022), winner of the Governor General's Award for Poetry, and two previously published chapbooks, including five from hem (Gap Riot Press, 2024), a finalist for the bpNichol Chapbook Award. Her poems have appeared in journals across Canada and abroad and in the Best Canadian Poetry anthology series. She is a member of Room Magazine ’s Growing Room Collective and the publisher of micropress Opaat Press. MacAskill was born and raised in London, Ontario, on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Chonnonton Nations. She now lives in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia), on the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq.
